This logo symbolically expresses
how the spirit and culture of Edo
shape the identity of the
international city of Tokyo,
serving as a driving force that connects past to future.
The brush-style Roman letters "Edo"
signify that Edo is not merely history,
but a culture still visible to the world today.
The Edo-purple "Tokyo" expresses
how Edo’s spirit and image continue to flow into present-day Tokyo.
It conveys the idea that
the sophistication and creativity nurtured in Edo
remain the foundation supporting Tokyo’s ongoing evolution.
Edo: The Foundation of Modern Tokyo
Edo, the foundation of today’s Tokyo, grew into one of the world’s most populated cities of its time. Through the lives of its residents, Edo fostered a rich and unique culture—both tangible and intangible—that flourished brilliantly.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is once again shining a light on Edo, working to share its profound charms.
